Vertical Platform Lift Products - CDE and HCDE Model SPECIFICATIONS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT
The product described here in is manufactured by The National Wheel-O-Vator, MOBILITY ELEVATOR AND LIFT CO., WEST CALDWELL, NJ. TEL: (973) 887-7500, FAX: (973) 887-0442. and is a vertical wheelchair lifting device consisting of a machine tower with lifting platform, selected and dimensioned to provide adequate lifting height to suit the individual building requirements. The lift can be used either indoors or outdoors to vertically transport a wheelchair user or mobility impaired person up over a barrier thus creating access to or within a building.
1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A: Manufacturer: A company with not less than five (5) years of experience in the design and fabrication of vertical wheelchair lift.
B:Technical Services: Manufacturer and authorized dealer shall work with
architects, engineers and contractors to adapt the wheelchair lift product to the
design and structural requirements of the building,
site, and code requirements.
1.03 SECTION INCLUDES
A: Furnish and provide all materials and labor necessary to complete the installation of the vertical wheelchair lift.
B: Obtain all information affecting work at job site. Include verification of field dimension, anchoring and storage. Verify voltages and outlets on electrical drawings
1.04 RELATED SERVICES
Electrical devices, services and final connections shall be by a qualified electrician.
1.05 REFERENCES
A: All designs, clearances, construction, workmanship and installation shall be in accordance with the requirements of codes having legal jurisdiction. The wheelchair lift shall be subjected to local city and state approval prior to installation and after installation.
1.06 SUBMITTALS
Submit drawings or manufacturers literature for approval. Drawings shall show dimensional requirements and wiring requirements.
1.07 SUBSTITUTIONS
No substitution shall be considered unless written request for approval has been submitted and received by the architect at least ten (10) days prior for to the bid date.
Each substitution request shall include the name of the material for which it is to be substituted and a complete description of the proposed substitutions including drawings, performance and test data, a list of projects similar in scope, photographs of existing installation, design differences and other information necessary for evaluation.
1.08 TESTING
The lift shall be designed and tested for five (5) times static load safety factor of its rated capacity in compliance with ANSI A17.1. Material such as cast iron shall not be used in the lift structure.
Load the vertical lift unit to rated capacity and test for several cycles to insure proper operation. No mechanical failures shall occur and no wear that would effect the reliability of the unit shall be detected.
PART 2 PRODUCT
2.01 MANUFACTURER
The National Wheel-O-Vator Co. PCDE and HPCDE vertical platform by:

Model shall be the Wheel-O-Vator lift model CDE, with metal enclosure
2.03 FABRICATION
A: Platform shall be constructed of 12 gauge minimum steel and the automatic flipup ramp, ramp shall be a minimum of 12 gauge steel construction. Platform and ramp must have a non-skid surface. The platform must have a minimum of 12 square feet.
B: Platform side panels must be 42" high. Side panel framework shall be a minimum of 1 " square tubing x .065. The solid in fill panels shall be a minimum of 24 gauge steel.
C: The main frame support tubings shall be a minimum of 1 1 /2 square tubing x .120.
D: Carriage arms shall be a minimum of 1 /2" x 2" steel flat bar along with 1 /2" x 6" steel flat bar uprights. Cam rollers shall be used for axial carriage guidance and wear resistance pads for horizontal stability.
E: Fasteners shall be five yr higher. Locking fasteners shall be used in all critical locations.
F: The machine tower shall be of 12 gauge steel, front and back covers of a minimum of 16 gauge steel.
G: The drive mechanism shall be an acme screw design. The screw shall be a minimum of 1 " diameter. The acme screw shall have a secondary safety nut in the unlikely event of a main lift nut failure which will prevent uncontrolled descent.
H: The acme screw and nut shall have a minimum static load rating of five (5) times the rated lifting capacity.
I: The motor shall be a minimum of 3/4 HP, 1750 RPM, instant reversing 1 1 5 volt,
12 amp and a single phase.
J: To minimize electrical hazards the operating control circuit shall be 24 volts with a grounded electrical system.
K: A final limit switch shall be required to cut off all power and stop the unit in the event of an upper limit switch failure.
L: Finish shall be electrostatically applied powder coating even baked to cure.
M: Color shall be manufacturers standard color.
N: The lift shall be supplied with a constant pressure up/down switch which is key locked and shall meet the requirements of ANSI A17.1 PART 2000.
O: The lift shall be designed such that it comes to a gradual stop within 1 /8" of desired lifting height and not an abrupt braking stop.
P: The platform shall be equipped with an obstruction panel that will stop the downward travel if an obstruction is encountered.
EMERGENCY STOP & ALARM
An emergency stop and alarm switch shall be provided on car as a means of signaling for assistance in the event of an emergency.
LANDING GATES
two landing gates with electro mechanical interlockand interlock.
GRAB RAIL
A grab rail shall be provided on the platform as required by ANSI for commercial applications.
HAND CRANK
The hand crank shall be provided as a means of manually raising and lowering the platform in the event of a power or component failure.
2.04 APPLICABLE STANDARDS.
The unit shall be designed and manufactured in accordance with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A17.1 parts 2000 and 2100 for vertical wheelchair lifts in public and private residence.
2.05 PERFORMANCE

PART 3
3.01 INSTALLATION
A: Unit shall be installed accordance with National Electrical code (N.E.C.) N.F.P.A. 70.
B: Unit shall be installed and operated in accordance with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A17.1 PARTS 2000.
C: All external mounted controls to be properly mounted.
D: A separate 20 amp electrical circuit with a manual disconnect switch and ground fault indicator shall be supplied by electrical contractor at job site.
E: Coordinate work with general contractors.
F: Leave standard electrical connection drawings with electrical contractor to make final electrical connection.
G: The installation of the vertical wheelchair lift shall be made in accordance with the approved plans end specification and the manufacturers installation instructions.
PART 4
4.01 MAINTENANCE
of the wheelchair lift unit shall consist of regular cleaning of the unit, regular inspection and light lubrication as specified by the manufacturer.
4.02 WARRANTY
Unit shall have a one (1) year limited warranty on the basic unit and electrical system with a two (2) year warranty on drive components.
