Mobility Elevator has recently installed a custom folding incline wheelchair lift to provide wheelchair access at NYU Kimmel center. The lift is custom made to accommodate a staircase with an intermediate landing. For this project, we chose the Omega Inclined Platform Lift which was a natural choice for this installation as it is designed for access over stairs with multiple levels, curves or intermediate landings. This lift features:
- A space-saving design
- Machine roomless design, keeping the visible components to a minimum.
- Constant pressure buttons to move the lift up and down
- A pedestrian warning light and movement alarm
- A straight through platform, power folding platform
- Pendant control
- A fold-down seat with 330 lb (150 kg) capacity
- A modular rail system.
- ADA-compliant platform
- Various safety features
Located at the heart of the campus, the NYU Kimmel center provides space and resources for students, faculty, staff, departments, alumni, and community organizations. It also facilitates event spaces for all departments within the university. Visitors to the Kimmel Center have access to NYU Dining, Peet’s Coffee, the adjacent Global Center for Academic & Spiritual Life, and a breathtaking view of Washington Square Park.
Since the facilities the Kimmel Center provides are for both public use as well as for members of the NYU community, the installation of this wheelchair lift was essential. Within these communities exist people who require appropriate accommodations for accessing each floor. Accessibility is not only about bringing the building to the legal standard, it is about providing a great experience for visitors to the Kimmel Center. This new wheelchair lift helps bring the building to ADA compliance and accessibility for all!
